Air Ambulance 1 is NOT a brokerage service. We are a fully insured and licensed air ambulance company by the State of Texas. We have our own Medical Director, equipment, leased planes and flight teams. In the event one of our network alliance planes is closer to the vicinity of the patient, we may utilize their plane in order to save you precious time and money.

How Do I Arrange an Air Ambulance Transfer?

Do You Provide an Itinerary?
As soon as you confirm a trip with Air Ambulance 1, we will quickly coordinate the timing with the family and the sending and receiving facilities. We set up all arrangements, including ground transport and coordinating with the facilities. We then create a written itinerary for you that can be sent by fax or email.
Who Arranges the Ground Transportation To and From the Aircraft?
Air Ambulance 1 Flight Coordinators set up and confirm all ground transportation, from the origin location to the airport and from the destination airport to the receiving facility.
How Long is the Flight?
Flight times depend on what kind of aircraft is used, distance to the destination and changes in weather. Air Ambulance 1 is able to estimate the time of your flight once all preliminary information is received.
Who Will Be in Contact with Family Members and Case Managers During the Duration of the Flight?

Can You Transport a Patient Over 500lbs?
Air Ambulance 1 can arrange for a jet with a special cargo door and a special lift in order to accommodate patients up to 1,000 pounds.
Can you Transport a Patient on Multiple IV’s, Monitor, Vent and Oxygen?
Our Air Ambulance 1 critical care medical team is trained and experienced in specifically transporting patients who are in need of several types of equipment and medications. Due to the fact our team has extensive experience with 911, we are confident in transporting critical care patients.

Do You Need Any Special Permits to Fly to Some Countries?
Some countries may request special notice in order to land in its borders. These permits may take anywhere from a few hours to several days to obtain.

How Much Does Air Ambulance Cost?
Air ambulance transfers can be somewhat costly. However, we offer programs that can help control and reduce the cost. Positioning of the aircraft and how soon you need to move the patient are two of the most significant factors that affect pricing. Air Ambulance 1 sends each and every quote in written form either through fax or e-mail. This protects you and identifies exactly what you will receive in regard to your transfer.
When Do I Pay for the Flight?
The flight is paid for in advance unless other arrangements have been made and confirmed through insurance or another third party payer.
What Methods of Payment Do You Accept?
Payment can be made to Air Ambulance 1 by credit card or bank wire transfer. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. A combination of credit cards is acceptable. We also accept all types of health insurance policies. All services not covered by insurance are paid for prior to aircraft dispatch.
Does Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid Cover Air Ambulance Transport?
About 45 percent of our clients have some insurance coverage for air ambulance. Medical necessity is generally required for coverage. Medicare generally does not cover air ambulance. Medicaid, in some instances of medical necessity will cover air ambulance and pre-authorization is required. There are a number of factors involved with determining whether or not an insurance carrier will pay for air ambulance transportation. Each patient situation is unique and in order to best determine whether or not your insurance will cover the costs of air medical transportation, please contact our Billing Department and they will gladly assist you.
Do You Help Patients File Insurance Paperwork?
Our Billing Department will handle every aspect of the claims filing process as well as any appeal process. We will work with the insurance company directly to help ease the stress from you and your loved ones.
