Bossier City is situated on the east bank of the Red River opposite Shreveport. During the 1830s the area was owned by the Cane family and was part of a plantation. The city was known as Cane’s Landing. In the early 1900s, it was renamed Bossier after Pierre Evariste John Baptist Bossier.
