Brookings is located about 50 miles north of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Brookings was named after one of South Dakota’s pioneer promoters, Wilmot Brookings. The area was reviewed and platted in 1879.
Brookings has few parks, the Pioneer Park, the Sexauer Park, and Hillcrest Park. The South Dakota Art Museum, the State Agricultural Heritage Museum, the McCrory Gardens, and South Dakota Arboretum are popular local destinations as well.
