La Paz was an Inca settlement of Laja. It was capture by the Spanish conquistador Captain Alonso de Mendoza in 1548. The city was named La Paz de Ayacucho in 1825. The declaration of the government seat was established there in 1898 although Sucre is the capital of Bolivia.
